Privacy Policy

Overview
Banter ("we", "us") provides a team workspace for messages, tasks, documents, files, and calendars. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to banter.work and the Banter application.
Information we collect
Account information. When you sign up we collect your email address, display name, and, if you sign in with Google, basic profile information provided by your identity provider.
Workspace content. Messages, documents, tasks, lists, files, calendar events, and other content you and your team create in a workspace. This content is stored so we can provide the service and is scoped to your workspace.
Vault items. Items you store in the Vault are encrypted in your browser with a passphrase only you know before they are sent to our servers. We cannot read your vault contents and cannot recover them if you lose your passphrase.
Usage and log data. We collect standard technical information such as IP address, browser type, and timestamps of requests for security, rate limiting, and debugging.
How we use information
We use your information to operate and improve the service: delivering messages and notifications, sending transactional email (such as workspace invitations and password resets), preventing abuse, and providing support.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your workspace content to train machine-learning models. Optional AI features (such as message rewriting) send only the text you explicitly submit, on your request, to our AI processing provider.
Sharing and processors
We share data only with service providers that help us run Banter — cloud hosting and database infrastructure, email delivery, and AI processing — under agreements that limit how they may use it. We may also disclose information when required by law.
Data retention and deletion
Workspace content is retained while your workspace is active. When you delete content or a workspace, it is removed from the live service and purged from backups on a rolling basis. You can request deletion of your account and associated personal data by contacting us.
Security
All data is encrypted in transit. Access to workspace data is enforced with row-level security so members of one workspace cannot access another's content. Vault items are additionally end-to-end encrypted client-side.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.
Changes and contact
We will post any changes to this policy on this page and update the date above. For questions or requests, contact us at privacy@banter.work.
